Benefits

What your journals get

A permanent identifier

Every article receives an ORI code that never changes, is never reused and always resolves to its public page.

Found by search engines

Open metadata (BibTeX, RIS, JSON, OAI-PMH) with the citation tags read by academic search engines.

Links that survive moves

If your journal changes website or platform, only the address in the record changes; citations keep working.

Transparent corrections

Corrections, withdrawals and retractions are shown publicly with their reasons, and records are never deleted.

Preserved full text

Deposit the PDF in the ORI repository: kept with a checksum and a second copy, checked on a regular schedule.

A dashboard for your team

Roles for institutional administrators, editors and registry operators, with a full history of every change.

Requirements

What we ask of participating journals

  • The journal is maintained by an identifiable editorial organization.
  • It publishes peer-reviewed scholarly content and has a public website.
  • It commits to sending accurate metadata and keeping it up to date, including corrections and retractions.
  • An ISSN is recommended; journals without an ISSN can still participate.

Registration, persistence and retraction rules apply equally to every participant — see the policies.

Quick answers

All questions →
Is ORI a DOI?

No. ORI is an institutional identifier of Oxton; it is not a DOI or a Crossref registration. If an article also has a DOI, ORI records it and uses it in citations.

How much does it cost?

Participation follows the plans published on the Plans page, with options per number of registrations and for institutions.

My organization is already in ORI. How do I get access?

Ask its institutional administrator to invite you, or request access to the journal from your dashboard.

Questions before applying?

The ORI team can help you plan the registration of your journals.
